Have not yet worn this for Halloween, but after trying it on I still think I can give it an accurate review. First, a little background so you know about why I chose this dress out of the many possibilities. My purposes for this was for an Arthurian Legends themed Halloween party, and I was planning on going as the Lady of Shalott. I picked this dress because it was one of the lighter colored ones out there, and it had the three designs that I was going for: pointed inner sleeves, flaring outer sleeves, and a sash (these are designs I’ve noticed in Shalott artwork). Also, it was relatively cheap; only a little over thirty bucks, even though the original price stated over sixty.

    And now for the breakdown.

    Pros:

Looks gorgeous, even though I only have an OK figure. It also seemed somewhat warm, but I cannot confirm that as getting the dress on was a bit of a workout. But with the sleeves and clear-to-the-floor skirt, I don’t think you need to worry about shivering in an indoor party. But even with all the cons, this really is a GORGEOUS dress. If all you need is to look good for a night, you’re covered.

Fit was OK. I got size large, and when it says large it actually means it, unlike most costumes out there. Instead of pushing the boundaries of the size, it was actually slightly TOO large, which is how a large SHOULD be on me.

Cons (unfortunately a bit of these):

That reviewer who stated it sheds? Not kidding. All I did was put it ON and everything around me was glittering with little bits of fuzz that fell off. I could see it on the cover of my black laptop. I’d be almost afraid to launder it, for fear of washing it all off. VERY CHEAP FABRIC. Despite being a velvet of sorts, it is very very thin and will not stand up to much wear and tear.

You need a spotter to get in and out of this thing. There is NO zipper. You have to pull it on and off over your head, and I had to have my sister yank it down so I could get my arms in those sleeves.

Comes crushed. Be prepared to brow-beat the shape back into that headpiece, and iron what you don’t want to look wrinkled. This isn’t actually that much, as the crushed velvet look is OK with looking, well, crushed. But the veil and that pattern on the front needed straightening.

Really wide neck. Recommend those bras with no straps, because they may show otherwise.

Poorly sewn together. Just from putting it on, I broke free one of the elastic straps that hold the sleeve to your finger. It just snapped loose. Also, several parts of the dress look like they’re already bursting seams, probably because they were just missed. Sash is slightly off-center too, so I have to keep twisting the dress.

Headpiece will not stay on head without outside help. Its way to small to fit over any head older than eight. It doesn’t look BAD, but it requires work. I just hope I can manage it on a WIG because my real hair is too short for this look.

    Summary:

Nice for one night, but don’t expect the dress to last. Do NOT pay full price; I’ve gotten better quality from Wal-Mart costumes. Things to keep in mind would be the wide neckline, possible help with getting in and out of it, finding some way to keep the headpiece on, and don’t fluff the dress near food (unless you don’t mind eating cheap velvet). It really is too bad it has to have so many cons, because this is a beautiful costume. Also, either wear good heels or be rather tall, as the skirt went somewhat past my feet.

Needed a costume for my daughter’s renaissance concert. This was okay for the one time use. The fabric sheds horribly and will not stand up to any laundering.
